Greetings everyone.

It has been a very busy and exciting and emotional week so far. First of all, I had my followup on Sunday for the Life Successes seminar I attended in July. It was a very good and bad day both but I wont get into that here.

As a result though, I am in the process of working to go back to school after the first of the year. 2008 was my year of health changes, 2009 is my year of continuing to grow and get my life where I want it to be. :)

Our workouts are changing with Stephanie to add in Mondays now. She is determined to make me look like Bill and Jim G. Amber isnt too keen on that but man do they look good. A good friend from my Life Successes seminar is a trainer also and we'll be hanging out more often also. So between Stephanie, Gabe and everyone on here..I cant lose (or should I say I CAN be a loser? hehe).

Take care everyone. Keep smiling Terry! And welcome home Sonja!

Our July numbers are up in the lists. The picture isnt updated yet.

I gained overall 1 lb but I was also sick at the end of June and dropped a lot of weight going into July when I wasnt eating for 36 hours.

Amber is still kicking butt and taking names...she will be at her goal weight by the end of the year and will be more smoking than she already is. :)

We had our 3 month assessment on Wednesday. My trainer still isnt happy with my hip to waist ratio and my bodyfat still says I'm overweight. /sigh
I guess the system wants me at 160. What else do I have to do? hehe....ok maybe laying off the Red Velet Cake for birthdays will help. My arms and legs increased size and she is happy with that.

Anyways I'm recommitted to watching my diet more again so maybe I wont stay in the rollercoaster 183-186 range this month.

175 is my goal for the end of September. 5 lbs per month the next 3 months.

Let's get it on!!!!!!

Ok... new exercise for those at home.

I think Stephanie called it a "Reach and Touch". Very good for lots of muscle groups and works your abs also.

1. Stand and lift you left leg up at the knee like a stork.

2. Reach your left hand up like the Statue Of Liberty.

3. Keeping your balance, reach down, bend the right leg slightly to allow you to touch your foot.

4. Reach back up to the statue position and repeat.

5. Switch legs after 10 times.

If you lose your balance and touch the ground with your raised leg, it doesnt count. :)

Have fun!

This engages your core to keep your balance while working your arms, back and legs when you have to bend to touch your toes.

Olympic Numbers for 7/22/08 :

Marcus & Amber :  2 HOUR Spin Class. Yes...you heard right. 2 hours straight. 1 hour wears you out as it is...when you add an extra hour that begins with your heartrate already at 70-80%, you realllllly feel it.

So I can assume we get 8 points for 2 hours.

Ok, a few have asked what "mountain climbers' are...there may be different names for it and may be a different exercise called the same thing...

What Stephanie has me do is :

Get into Push Up position. Bring one leg up to your chest. You should be in a position like you are climbing a mountain side but in a horizontal position.

Bring the bent leg to a straight position while at the same time, bringing your other leg up to your chest.

Rinse, repeat.

It isnt bad the first 15 seconds...the next 15 seconds are annoying...the last 15 seconds makes me want to give up my kidney to stop before my spleen ruptures.

Did I mention you cant stop to rest. It has to be continuous movement.

=====================================================================================================

Olympic numbers :

Marcus : 1 Plank for 1 Minute (that was pretty hard) x2, 60 Jumping Jacks x3, 30 Push Ups x2, 20 Leg Lifts (hard on my back, wont do those again)

Wow...what a week. So many wonderful things happened this week in a span of 4 days. I was given the best gift I've ever gotten when I had the opportunity to attend a Life Success seminar (Basic). Those 4 days were the most inspirational, emotional, encouraging, courageous time of my life. If anyone ever asks you to attend it, please do it. You'll never regret it!

I met some of the most wonderful people who I'll call friends forever. Just as all the wonderful people I've met here in the MPM community will be friends for life. You guys and gals had glimpses of who Marcus is behind a keyboard and I have made huge strides to bring our Marcus for everyone to see. (That feels wierd talking in 3rd person, lol)

The weight loss and improvements to ourselves are still going great! I keep hovering around my goal weight while Amber continues her charge to her goal weight. She looks so friggin hot now...I dont know how to act... :)

We miss Cori and he misses us...we are going up to see him in a few weeks. He has knives now at school....scary...I'm glad we bought him all those bandaids.

We had our spinning class tonight so we have 4 points accumulated for the Olympics. Now just 5,234,786 to go to catch Mike.

Take care everyone!

Well, Cori is now in college. Classes started today. Look for him in Hell's Kitchen or Top Chef in a few years :)

That being said, this weekend was not the best in choices but it was worth it for the pain and agony I had to endure earlier in the week.

I gained back 3 lbs from the 5 I lost last week but it is an overall 2 lb loss over 2 weeks.

I have a Life Success seminar this weekend then I get to relax for a few weeks before the next big event at the end of the month. Going to a racing event with my brother in Ky for 3 days.

Cant wait for the next season of Biggest Loser. Does anyone know if anyone from the MPM made it? I guess we cant go by who isnt posting because that would make it next season have thousands of contestants :)

Chris and Melissa Guillaume are doing well in their journey for Season 7. Let's wish them luck and give them our support WHEN they make it. (I'm optimistic..they are too funny and entertaining not to put them on the show).

Take care and keep making smarter choices than I did last week, haha!

New Diet Plan : The Food Poisoning Diet! Guaranteed to lose weight.

Ok, so maybe thats not the best plan out there but it works. :) The past 2 days have been terrible. I've barely eaten anything in 36 hours. I dont know if I got a mild case of food poisoning or that my body reacted badly to some Spicy/Thai beef jerky that I ate Sunday night. Either way..I'm down 5 pounds this morning. I'm sure most of it is the water I lost over the past 24 hours. We'll leave it at that... :)

I'm going to try to eat this afternoon so we'll see how that sits with me tonight. No exercising the past 3 days and I'm not going to spinning/workout tonight either. Combine that with heading to Pittsburgh to move Cori in this weekend...I wont have much exercising this week.

I've kind of fallen off the running bandwagon. I'm more into the weights and moderate exercising now moreso than the aerobics. Although I do like a machine at the healthplex that is a different version of the elliptical. Its like the elliptical without the arms and has a ramp system that you adjust up and down to target certain areas of your legs (or all 4 areas if you really ramp it to the max setting). Stephanie recommended that over the elliptical for Amber.

Stephanie really pushed me last Friday at our workout. Let me just say that I HATE mountain climbers. And I hate it that she doesnt know how to count...."5..4...3...2...2...2..2..." Is that like a requirement of personal training? To lose all comprehension of math skills?

She has me starting pull ups with no assistance now. I managed 2 by myself but needed her help to get a few more...Baby steps but it is getting there...

Sonja and Aaron sent us the most beautiful pictures the other day. It was a collage of Aarons graduation in one picture and then a colalge of pictures of Amber and I in LA. They were amazing!

I noticed on someones blog about buying all new clothes this week. I'm to the point where I need to do something. Last night Amber was commenting on some pants of hers and I stood up...jumped up and down 2 times and my shorts fell to the floor. She was rolling...so I hope I dont ever forget my belt anytime soon. People would be in for a surprise when I walked...

Take care everyone!

Updated what numbers I could from work. I'll try to work on the photobucket picture tonight.

75 minute spin class last night...that was a workout! We didnt do my conditioning training so she is going to try to make that up on Sunday after spinning. Of course, I'll be there Friday night for our normal workout.

I've been upping the resistance on the spin bike lately which shows I'm getting stronger in the legs now. It's just this GUT I hate....I know I know..you are saying "What gut?" but it is there still...just hiding...

I've been using my heart rate monitor to gauge my calories burnt per day now. It is more accurate than the arm band since it straps to your chest.
I'm around 2400 calories sedentary and 3000+ on workout days.

I havent been tracking my calories though...I'm sure I'm either way under or way over (on cheat days) but thats ok. I'm not gaining and not losing and the body is changing.

Take care everyone...

He Said, "OMG, I'm such a loser...."

And not in a good way. I've been slacking on my updates and I'll do better....

After our weighin tomorrow, I'll post everything. Its been a crazy few weeks with Cori's graduation and parties for him (what happens at the party stays at the party). Starting playing a new online game that has started the addition crave that got me where I was last year.

I will say that Amber's changes are AMAZING! Even people that dont see her for a few weeks at a time are shocked! Just wait until we post finale pictures. But you'll have to wait until our training is over in November. UNLESS you come visit us or we come visit you.

I know Mike is just itching to get me on the outdoor course. I may be working out but he is a machine! He's the Terminator! :) As I'm sure Danielle and Courtney could attest to.

We'll be up in Pittsburgh for a few days on July 5th and 6th so anyone up there is welcome to come downtown and help us move Cori in to his dorm. (See..we'll give you a good workout).

OMG! There is too much to talk about. So many things happening this week, so many goals reached, so many new friends gained....

First off on Tuesday we weighed in and both had nice losses! Amber told Stephanie last week that she wanted to be under 200 for the Boot Camp challenge so Stephanie told her what to do and she did it! As of Tuesdays weigh in she was at 202!!! And Friday morning..... 199!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She did it!
As for myself...my ultimate goal for the MPM was to lose 40 pounds...as of Tuesdays weigh in I was at 186.4....so I hadnt really expected to get there by Friday but I stayed true to the food and workouts and Friday morning.... 183.6!!!!! I did it!

So we both accomplished huge milestones this week. I have also noted with my Sensewear Body Bug that I am burning more calories per day without workouts than when I started. That means the muscle I've gained is burning more calories on its own now! This is why exercise is so important...you can easily maintain your body without the hours and hours of workouts that you did when you first started. For instance...I slept in this morning...had breakfast and watched some Tivo shows and as of 3pm I've burnt 1366 calories with little to no activity.

Ok..onto the bootcamp challenge. Stephanie Tieman did an outstanding job and David Griffin was great. He is hilarious!!! Everyone there was so wonderful and sooo nice. The workout was intense. I was able to do most of it until my back got irritated then I toned it down. My Stephanie was there with us watching over me. Melissa and Chris Guillaume came down from Indianapolis for the event. We SOO appreciate them coming down and had a great time with them as well. Wonderful people!

Here is the link to the Boot Camp page if interested in joining for those locally. It is such a wonderful thing and great investment!

Afterwards we went to the Five Seasons for an afterparty. We loved talking to everyone and we hope all those reading this from there will send us a message saying hello! We are as much fans of you as you are of us! After we got kicked out of the club several of us continued the evening at a local "Cowboy" bar in honor of our special guest. We had such a wonderful time with Stephanie T, David Griffin (Cowboy), Barb Nolan-Jones (who Amber hadnt seen in 13 years since she left from John Nolan Ford in Cincinnati), and the other hilarious people who kept partying on through the night.

We'll post pictures of the event and of the evening later this weekend hopefully. We have our sons graduation tomorrow to get ready for.

Ok enough for now...

Take care everyone and keep making smart choices!

We are booked for the Biggest Loser Meets Bootcamp Fundraiser. Stephanie (the organizer and trainer of the Bootcamp) called us last night and we chatted for a bit. Sounds like a fun event...raffles, auctions, VIP Dinner...and for a good cause.

For those locally...B105 (radio station) is going to be promoting it on the air this coming week. Channel 5 is going to air something on the Bootcamp on Sunday morning between 9-10am. I cant wait to see what the workout session is going to be like with David (Cowboy).

Amber and I will be speaking also (although I cant attest to how much I'll actually say in front of everyone) but I'll be glad to talk to anyone after the event in a smaller setting. (See, I told you I was shy...you didnt believe me..the MPM L.A. people saw how quiet I was..heh)

Regarding our weigh in this week. I lost a fraction again. I'm happy though because I am changing sizes again. Even though I'm still at 188...I can slip off my 38 jeans without unbuttoning them. I'm hip now (if you saw our oldest you'd swear he wears MY pants too.) So I'm happy...

Amber is on a mission to hit a goal before June 6th. She's been a workout beast this week and next week too I'm sure.

Take care!!

Ok..I've been slacking. Mostly because I got a new computer (an IMAC) and it doesnt run Hotmail. We are working on setting it up to run windows program. So I'm using Ambers laptop for our livespace account.

We are still plugging along. Workouts on Fridays for 1-2 hours and Spinning classes on Tuesday and Sundays. This past Sunday was an hour and a half long just because she felt like it. LOL And this Sunday is going to be the same she said.

I need to update our charts. I'm still hovering around the 188 mark and Amber is losing a little at a time. So we both are at plateaus but I suspect it is because of the workouts counteracting our losses. I'm sure our inches are changing though.

We havent gotten finalized plans for June 6th but we are attending the bootcamp as guests of the host. It should be lots of fun...provided my back is up to par by then. It is feeling much beter and I have another massage session this week to work out any kinks.

Until next time...take care and keep making smart choices!

Come join us if you live nearby...Amber and I were invited to attend and we are bringing our trainer with us also. So you can hear her story also.
She really is amazing. So you get to hear David (the special guest), Amber, Our trainer Stephanie, the Boot Camp instructor Stephanie, and maybe me. We dont know what we'll be doing but I'm glad to have my trainer there watching my back issues. :)

Ok, SPIN class this morning was lonely. No Amber...she went to an out of town wedding. I was scheduled to workout with Stephanie afterwards but on Friday we realized I have a pain in my back. So no workouts until we have it looked at. So I have my appt with my massage therapist tomorrow to make a determination of what it is.

There are several things I still CAN do but the big ones Stephanie wants me to do involves a strong back.

Weigh in wasnt great for me. I dont know if its muscle or the fact that I'm terrible about sodium intakes the night before weighins. I gained 2 lbs according to the scale yesterday morning. We didnt document it though cause Amber wasnt keen on the Saturday weighin and wants to do Tuesday again. I'm ok with that I guess....Mark and Tamela mentioned that weekend weighins were hard to do.

I've got lots of bills to pay and clothes to do today. Should get started....

Take care!

i forgot/any one know?

Oh i als forgot something else i notice when i work out my heart rate is getting like to 159-164 and according to how you figure target heart rate that s above my target heart rate for my age and i am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I believe when we were having phone calls they said you need to stay in your target heart rate or it does you no good. Does anyone know anything about this? The problem is i have one bad lung so when i start to workout my heart rate automaticly goes up because it has to work a little harder.  I would love any suggestions you may have.

The comments below are correct. One of the first things STephanie told us was that to burn FAT you need to stay in your target heart rate zone. I know it sounds crazy but you can work TOO HARD and be bruning muscle and not fat. Amber still has a hard time thinking that it is too easy staying in the correct zone. It seems like cheating cause she isnt working up a good sweat. But you must have discipline to stay in the zone.

I never knew Aerobic vs Anaerobic until talking to Stephanie. Christy is right on with her comments!

There is a treadmill at Mercy that has a VO test built in that you can get the results that Chisty was talking about. So check around your local gyms and hospital healthplexes for ones that have that. I did it the other day and it said I was in the superior rating..hard to believe but maybe because of all the running I've done in the past few months.

You are in the danger zone...working anerobically - only recommended for VERY short spurts - like 1 minute at most and then bring it down to the mid ranges.

The best way to find out your THR is to get a VO max test done - I'm not sure where they would do that - unless it would be at the hospital rehab areas.  As you work out at the lower levels your heart will become more and more conditioned - even with the one lung....I've found that if I do mat work, or lay down for weight work, my heart rate stays down, so that's how I do my heaveier workouts....but I try to do my cardio within the middle range.

well it's not that it doesn't do you any good, it could be dangerous for you. you need to try and lower your intensity so that you stay within your fat burning range.  It really does work, I assure you.

Sorry it's been a while since we blogged. Well as you know last Friday was our first full-scale workout with Stephanie. I thought for sure that I would be dead on Saturday but I felt ok...I knew it was too good to be true because it was a delayed reaction and SUNDAY was murder! I was sooo sore in my midsection and arms. Amber's arms were about to fall off on Sunday. I was fine come Monday but Amber was still hurting.

Tuesday was our SPIN class and that went well. She made us sit in front to keep an eye on us. Again, I felt good the next day but let me tell you...my legs were burning during the class. Stephanie went ahead and signed us up for her Sunday SPIN class also so now we are going twice a week as well as working out twice a week (Fridays and after SPIN on Sundays).

Added bonus :  Mike and Danielle have invited us to do some outdoor things with them sometimes so it looks like our summer is going to be booked! :)

Amber and I are also looking into attending an event in June that we were invited to. Have to look at our schedule but once confirmed, we'll announce it. I dont know if the person wants our attendance publicized or not.

We are changing our weighin days to Saturdays due to us wanting to use our high calorie days as our weighin days and Tuesdays are out now with the SPIN class. So you'll see our updated numbers this weekend.

Well anyways, take care!

OMG! I am going to DIE tomorrow morning. Stephanie worked us out tonight and I was exhausted. And this is just the warm up workouts..wait until she gets us into the hard stuff she said. Learned a lot of things we can do at home and get a good HARD workout. She said I needed to get my core built up before hitting the heavy weights. You would never guess that simple things can have so much affect on you until you actually do it.

Had a doctors appt today and they were all talking about how good I had done. Having a 'celebrity' in their office..ROFL
We'll have the results of the blood test next week to see where my levels are at now.

Take care everyone!
